We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. You don't need any special skills or experience, just a willingness to show up, be kind, and pitch in where you can. That said, here are some things that are helpful:
Comfort working alongside people from diverse backgrounds, including people who may be navigating homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance use
Reliability and communication, letting us know if you can't make it
Openness to learning and taking direction from staff and Peer Workers
A collaborative, non-judgmental approach
Patience and flexibility–community work doesn't always go as planned!

Art Kit Builds
Art Kit builds are a community effort! We gather at our space (185 E Hastings) to assemble kits that include art materials, instructional zines created by local artists, and PPE like masks and hand sanitizer. These kits go out to neighbours through partner organizations, community events, and direct street-level outreach.
What it involves: Sorting and packing materials, assembling kits, labelling, and preparing boxes for distribution.
Time commitment: 3–4 hours per session. Builds happen a few times a year (roughly every 2–3 months).
Public Workshops
We run public art workshops in partnership with other neighbourhood organizations, things like button-making, block printing, and more. These often take place outdoors at parks or at partner venues.
What it involves: Helping set up and take down (tents, chairs, sharps clean up ect), supporting participants with art activities, handing out materials and snacks, and take town.
Time commitment: Usually 3–5 hours per event. Workshops happen periodically throughout the year, often in spring/summer/fall.
Community Events
We also support and participate in community events, cultural events (Setsubun, Hanami, Día de los Muertos, Truth and Reconciliation Day gatherings), and partner events at places like CRAB Park, Powell Street Festival,
What it involves: This varies by event, and could include set up and take down, distributing art kits or food, helping with setup, supporting Peer Workers, or just being present to help things run smoothly.
Time commitment: Varies — typically 2–5 hours depending on the event.
